During the 5th Annual Business Symposium held in Las Vegas on January 15, The Salon Association (TSA) presented awards for spirit, community and fellowship. Salon professionals Cindy Monten, Inez Sandburg, John Galietti and Mark Swank received TSA's awards this year.

The Spirit of Noel Award is named for Noel de Caprio, who pioneered the day spa and wellness movements in the beauty industry while battling breast cancer. Each year the award is given in conjunction with MODERN SALON's Mirror Image Breast Cancer Awareness Initiative to salon professionals whose actions exemplify de Caprio's spirit of reaching out and helping others. Candidates are nominated by Mirror Image sponsors, and TSA's nominee this year was Cindy Monten, owner of Salon Monten in Minnetonka, Minnesota.

The Building Community Award recognizes ongoing commitment to the professional salon community. This year's winners were Inez Sandburg, owner of Habitude in Seattle, and John Galietti, co-owner of Xena's Beauty Company in New York City. Mark Swank, owner of Simply Swank Hair Studio in Hudson, Ohio, was awarded the Spirit of TSA Award for unwavering support, enthusiasm and dedication.

Plans for TSA's 6th Annual Business Symposium, called The Art of the Question, are underway. It will be held January 12-15, 2002, at the Fontainebleu Hilton Resort and Towers in Miami Beach, Florida. Further information will be forthcoming. Published July 26 - August 1, 2001
